Drama’s Celebration of the Monologue
Northern Adelaide Senior College’s drama production company, Fulqarezpepe, are busy preparing for this term’s Winter Music and Arts Showcase happening in June.
“The drama class is a stage 1 and 2 subjects combined. We’re strange, unexpected, and kooky and we like to experiment and express wackiness just for the LOLs,” says Drama teacher, Renee Howell.
“More importantly, we refine our ability to create, collaborate and communicate as artists through shared meaningful experiences amongst ourselves and our audiences.
“We imagine, we take risks, and we provide the platform for expression which is empowering to my students.”
Drama students could decide to write or source a monologue they felt comfortable exploring and acting in front of an audience.
Cory F., who is managing the set design and backstage work for the upcoming event, is excited to see how the actors will perform on the night.
“I like working backstage in designing sets and costumes and all that kind of thing. I’m not the acting type but I do try,” says Cory.
“I’m designing sets for all the monologues, plus I and another backstage person, are writing scripts for while we’re setting up the stage and moving the equipment.”
Cory says that choosing drama was an unexpectedly good choice for his SACE.
“I chose Drama because I play D&D and I voice act so I thought that this was a better option and it’s fun.
“Renee is a really good teacher. She’s really helpful and she understands what you like and helps you develop.”
Cory came to NASC on the push from his parents to swap schools as soon as they saw the advertising and found Adrienne Gorringe was a teacher at NASC.
“I couldn’t focus at school and NASC helped with accepting myself, to do stuff that I want to do, and tying it all to a normal school curriculum,” says Cory.
“I think people should definitely look into coming to NASC because it’s a really good school.
“They accommodate to your learning style and what you like and they offer many subjects for what you want to do.”
