NASC participates in Intercultural Cup
Northern Adelaide Senior College participates in the 2021 Port Power Intercultural Program for its second year.
Intercultural Cup focuses on teaching cultural diversity, inclusion, and social interconnection by highlighting the amazing contribution different cultures within Australia provide, especially in the school community.
As part of the assessment, students design their guernseys to represent their school, with the winning design worn at Adelaide Oval during the carnival.
Katelyn W., a Stage 1 Intercultural Cup student, designed this year’s winning NASC Guernsey.
As Katelyn writes:
“On the Guernsey, the shield is the totem for the Kaurna people and shows the importance of us being on Kaurna land. Together the male and female symbols show that different genders are coming together as a team to play a sport and unite as one to represent their school. The footsteps represent the path that the team has taken to come together and make the journey to the meeting place which is the symbol on the back. It shows that it is good to walk together as a team and work together and support each other. The band across the front and back shows the flags of our Intercultural Cup community and how they can come together to represent what different people in our class bring to the team. This and the multicultural hands on the back represents the different cultures of our class and school coming together as one.”
NASC played against other schools at Karen Rolton oval in the city, winning three games of six.
The carnival culminated in a grand final last Saturday with 400 students from 15 schools around South Australia watching the two finalists, with Mount Carmel winning by a few goals before watching the Port vs Swans showdown.
Well done to all students and staff involved.
Intercultural Cup is offered in Stage 1. If you would like to be involved, contact Northern Adelaide Senior College on (08) 7285 1600 to find out more.
