Northern Adelaide Senior College (NASC) opened its doors for Northern Adelaide State Secondary Schools’ Alliance (NASSSA) students undertaking VET courses at last Thursday’s VET Orientation Day.
It was wonderful to see so many of our students and families at the NASC orientation day,” says Mary Hodson, Assistant Principal in SACE/VET at NASC.
“Vocational training programs can assist students to become job ready and increase their opportunities of gaining apprenticeships and employment in their chosen career.
“The competency-based training will allow students to demonstrate their ability in a certain task to enhance their skill set and career prospects,” says Mary.
Darren Quinn, Training and Development Manager at CMI Toyota and VET Orientation guest speaker, agrees.
“VET can give you those opportunities whether you want to be a builder, a hairdresser or a business manager,” says Darren.
“There’s opportunities in the system to get you there.”
Students were introduced to the school, their chosen VET subject(s), their teachers and what they can expect while studying at NASC.
“It was really good,” says Charlie Rose H. from Gawler and District College studying Animal Studies.
“It gave me a lot of information about what is coming up this year and I like to know a lot of stuff before I actually go into something.”
Teagan C., also from Gawler and District College, chose to study Animal Studies at NASC with her friend.
“I wanted to choose animal studies because I thought it would be good experience to move into that field of work and it would be a really good background to have.”
“It would be a really good experience and it seems really fun and exciting.”
Darren says that VET education is one of “the best thing” that NASC offers to our students.
“It opens opportunities to not only good training, but also opportunities to lead to future employment which ideally is what we want for all students,” says Darren.
Darren gives this final advice to any student wanting to do a VET course at NASC.
“Give it a go, have a look around to find something that you really enjoy and go for it,” says Darren.
